• Chavez-Grieves was the Engineer-of-Record for the Albuquerque Aquarium
• All structures were build of steel-reinforced concrete masonry units with stucco exteriors and standing-seam custom metal roofs
• From the beginning of the project, leak control of the saltwater tanks was the prime consideration
• Any leaks would not only be inconvenient, but would be a threat to the long-term structural integrity of the tanks
• Irregular shaped tanks, multiple tank levels and the large amount of unusual openings complicated waterproofing
• Careful attention was paid to the design, detailing and specifications for the tanks and basins
• From concept to final construction, Chavez-Grieves played a pivotal roll in meeting the demands of a watertight structure
• The tanks had no leaks, reportedly a first for a major aquarium in the United States
