University of Arizona Medical Center Expansion- Tucson, Arizona

The University of Arizona’s Medical Center Expansion added a new 211,000 square foot, six-story building directly north of the existing hospital. The Emergency Department will be on the first level of the bed tower, with inpatient beds on floors two and three. Floors four through six will be shell space for future expansion. The Emergency Department will contain a 16-bed clinical decision unit where emergency patients requiring observation will receive care. The existing heliport will be relocated temporarily to the parking lot west of the hospital at Warren & Adams while a new heliport is constructed on the roof of the new facility. This is a multi-year construction project with three main phases: Phase I completed February 2007. Phase II completed June 2007 and Phase III scheduled to finish early Fall 2009. Chavez-Grieves Consulting Engineers, Inc. is the structural engineer of record; the Innova Group of Tucson is the Project Manager; NTD Stichler of Tucson is the Architect; and Kitchell Contractors of Phoenix is providing construction management.
