• Building provided an ideal space in which to train New Mexico’s teachers and allow for adaptation of the learning environment to meet the technological requirements of the future
• Building volumes were organized to concentrate classroom spaces away from office spaces to enable greater energy efficiency
• New laboratory classrooms, interview and observation rooms, as well as the addition of a crucial resource library, conveniently allowed the Department of Education to centralize its operations

• High school for grades nine through twelve, for 2,200 students
• Approximately 450,000 square feet of building on a 50-acre site
• Project included a master plan for 70 acres to include other community fields and recreational facilities
• Fast-tracked to provide occupancy in less than two years
• Two-story building and the adjacent athletic fields step slightly with the site
• Commons areas are distributed along a central circulation element, providing space for student gathering and food service
• Exterior of the building has a stucco skin, deep-set windows with shading devices/ light shelves, and a light-reflecting membrane roofing system
• Main entrance is accentuated by locating it on the second level, at the end of a long gradual slope up. The main entrance leads into the two-level Learning Resource Center, which element adds to a strong design focus for the main entrance
• Structure is a steel framing system
• Chavez-Grieves Consulting Engineers was the structural engineer on the first phase of this project

• High school campus located in Rio Rancho
• Project had three major areas: a three-story “tower” classroom building, a series of stand-alone, single-level structures, and a stand-alone, two-level gymnasium/locker room building
• Site also included a full complement of athletic fields and support facilities
• Classroom building was approximately 200,000 square feet in size
• Roof structure consisted of structural metal deck over structural steel joists
• Elevated floor structures consisted of concrete over composite metal deck and steel beams
• Structural steel frame supports the roof and floor
• Winner of the a NAIOP NEW MEXICO Awards of Excellence Award of Merit for an Educational/High School, Associated General Contractors New Mexico Best Building Award for a CMAR Project, and ENR Southwest Best of Award for Best Cultural/Workshop Project for the Fine Arts Center and Orchestra Hall
