“The Pit” Renovation – The University of New Mexico – Albuquerque, New Mexico
Construction Cost: $60M Size: 75,000sf Completed: Nov. 2010
Awards: 2011 Engineering Excellence Award
The $60 Million renovation of “The Pit” includes an addition of 75,000 square feet of new space to a facility built in 1966. The design was meant to preserve what “The Pit” was, while modernizing it. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to isolate the original structure built in 1966 and design the addition of five separate buildings adjacent to “The Pit” yet structurally detached from it.
