Parking Structure design and construction is a specialized segment of our industry. How the structure is coordinated with the items specific to parking structures typically determines if a project is a success. Vibration, ventilation, drainage, guardrail/cabling, ramps, wheel stops, spandrel panels, lighting, control joints, and other items must be allowed for and coordinated in the design process.
Many structural engineers approach parking structure designs only considering the structural components. Chavez-Grieves experience has shown this type of myopic approach can lead to conflicts, inefficiency and potential cost overruns.
